Welcome to Project Blue Light Iowa.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that travels to communities in Iowa to distribute free blue light bulbs as a symbol of law enforcement support. Our mission is to encourage positive community relations between citizens and their local law enforcement. Show your support by getting a blue light bulb and displaying it on your front porch or in a window. When you turn on that blue light, you make a statement to your neighborhood and your community that you support law enforcement!
We are modeled after the national “Project Blue Light” campaign by Concerns Of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) that encourages support for law enforcement with blue colored bulbs. What makes our organization unique is our free blue light bulb give away events held across the state. To date we have given out over 25,000 free bulbs and are funded purely on donations we receive at these events. For as long as it is financially feasible, we will continue to purchase lights with our donations and hold these events.
There are no certain days or time frames in which to turn on your blue light. For many of us, our lights shine every night. If you would like a free blue light, please stay tuned to our events page for the closest event to you where we give out blue light bulbs to interested citizens. If you decide to purchase one on your own, most hardware and home improvement stores that sell light bulbs also sell blue colored light bulbs.
Public support of law enforcement is up from when this organization began in 2015 but we are a long way from dismantling the negative culture towards our police officers, deputies, and State Patrol. Let’s continue to let our local officers know we appreciate them and their sacrifices to keep our communities safe.
